Before The Mural
2026 | Print Design | Degree Project
Before the Mural explores the work that happens before a public mural is ever created. Through interviews with public artists and two community events, the project focuses on participation, accessibility, and community engagement within public art. The project invited participants to reflect on their identities and experiences through creative activities designed to make people feel comfortable, heard, and involved.
Before the Mural: A Guide to Public Art Through Conversation, a publication that highlights artists’ experiences and makes public art feel more approachable to beginners. I learned that murals are also about listening, planning, and building relationships with communities. Through interviews and participation, Before the Mural highlights the importance of collaboration and the role community voices play in shaping public art.
